No. 1 Heavy Melting Steel is wrought iron and/or steel secondary material ΒΌ inch and over in thickness. The difference between No. 1 Heavy Melting Steel Scrap and No. 2 Heavy Melting Steel Scrap is #2 HMS contains galvanized and blackened steel whereas #1 HMS does not contain them.
According to ISRI Specifications, HMS 1 is classified into three types of grades:
- No.1 Heavy Melting Steel [ISRI Code 200]: Individual pieces must not be over 60 x 24 inches (charging box size) and be prepared in a manner to insure compact charging.
- No.1 Heavy Melting Steel 3 feet x 18 inches [ISRI Code 201]: Individual pieces must not be over 36 x 18 inches (charging box size) and be prepared in a manner to insure compact charging.
No.1 Heavy Melting Steel 5 feet x 18 inches [ISRI Code 202]: Individual pieces must not be over 60 x 18 inches (charging box size) and be prepared in a manner to insure compact charging
